The Rockery House is set to be the first net-zero-energy bill house in Amman, Jordan. The 825 sqm (8,880 sf) house is designed using very careful passive green design strategies that allow it to save 80% of its running cost by shaping the masses to provide full sun shading in the summer and maximum sun penetration in the winter. It also responds to the exterior wind directions allowing the owners to naturally cool the house through cross ventilation on most summer days. The remaining 20% of its energy is covered by Photovoltaic cells to result in 100% saving on energy. It will also be home to Jordan’s first natural pool which uses freshwater that doesn’t contain chlorine or salt and the water is filtered using natural aquatic plants that feed on the impurities in the water.
